John Comerford – Personal Injury Attorney
Attorney John Comerford is a dedicated and award-winning Northern California personal injury attorney. He is the founder and managing attorney of the Comerford Law Firm, with a mission of providing personal and effective service to people who have been seriously injured in automobile, motorcycle and other types of accidents.
John Comerford serves auto accident, motorcycle accident and other personal injury victims throughout Northern California including the following localities: San Francisco East Bay; South Bay; Alameda County including Alameda, Berkeley, Emeryville, Fremont, Hayward, Livermore, Newark, Oakland, Pleasanton, San Leandro and Union City; Contra Costa County including Concord, Richmond, San Ramon, and Walnut Creek; Santa Clara County including Campbell, Cupertino, Milpitas, Mountain View, Palo Alto and San Jose.
John’s main office is in Newark, CA with satellite offices in Oakland, Pleasanton, and San Jose California.
The Comerford law firm takes a limited number of cases every year. We do this because we must take the time necessary to communicate with all parties involved in order to get the facts, evaluate the damage in the light most favorable to our clients, and then come up with a settlement that will provide the best results, often without the need for lengthy litigation and court appearances.
We negotiate when we can and litigate when we must. When those responsible for causing harm do not accept their duty to “make whole” the people they have injured, we step in to file a lawsuit and let the matter be judged in court. Our clients are always kept informed of the progress of their case and participate in all procedural and settlement decisions.
Education & Professional Associations
Personal injury attorney John Comerford is a member of the California State Bar, the American Bar Association, the Alameda County Bar Association, Consumer Attorneys of California, and the Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association. John also has the pleasure to work with some of the finest legal minds in the state. In addition to his Juris Doctorate, Attorney John holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Education from the State University of New York at Albany.
Years Living Abroad
With a strong interest in world cultures and languages John spent several years in the Orient, adopting the best of what he found there. In particular, he was impressed with the importance placed by many Asian cultures on civility, politeness and good manners, and he makes every effort to bring these traits into the practice of law while at the same time honing litigation and trial skills to be used when a negotiated settlement cannot be reached.
Earning Respect & Dignity in the Legal System
Clients, judges, and even opposing attorneys appreciate his efforts to maintain a high level of respect and dignity in the courtroom and the legal process, and because of it they are often more willing to cooperate with him to find a settlement that will satisfy all parties. One of Mr. Comerford’s proudest cases was one in which he was able to negotiate, without the need to file a lawsuit, a million dollar plus settlement for an elderly woman who was injured in a pedestrian crosswalk.
“I believe in the legal system. It’s what makes us a civilized society. It stands for those who have been damaged and does its best to “make them whole.” I know very well that “unfair” and “unlawful” are separate and distinct terms, but I still believe that within the confines of existing laws we should do our best to do the right thing. I don’t like it when people abuse the legal system for their own benefit, and when I come across such a situation it motivates me to work harder to make sure both my client and the system are protected.”
